Today we continued to unpack the medications that Matari had ordered for us and then organized some more and counted out more pre-filled bags of meds.
I took an insert from each medication, so that one would have easy access to them in the Pharmacy. I then walked around the table and and listed each med and concentration so that the Doctors know what we have. I also determined what we still needed and thankfully Dr. Ikoko came in and confirmed these meds. Gisela and Dallas are Pharmacy troopers and have been invaluable in helping to organize so much!
We were to meet with Dany (Matari's son who is in Medical school in Uganda) to review the Clinic days and medications and some local diseases, but he got tied up with vehicle maintenance.
At times today my brain felt overwhelmed - I felt stressed and scared with the task laid before us. Mairlyn has been encouraging me to take the lead with many things and while that is good, it also increases responsibility and therefore my anxiety. I have never been good at delegating and so I just need to learn to do that and trust in my team who are SO capable! This is such an amazing group of women.
Lord, keep me calm and relazed - FAT - flexibley, adaptable and....ah! I forgot the "T"!! Oh well...keep me that too!
Ellen has had a wonderful 2 days of ministry amongst the church leaders. Over and over again I have heard them say what a blessing it was. Praise God!
At the end of the day today, we toured the Clinic and we met a young woman named, Happiness. What a beautiful name. She had a stillbirth in early September and has had some complications - this is the third baby she has lost. She aksed that we pray for her and so we did: for healing of her body and mind and heart; for her to know the love and peace of Jesus; for her to know this is not her fault nor is it judgement upon her - it is one of the many things we have no answer to. I do pray, Jesus, that you will bring Happiness to life again.
I enjoy our walks to Urafiki every day - the children run after us and take our hands and will call from across the street, "Mzungu!!" with large smiles and laughter. They are great gems.
We saw one little boy who clearly has worms: big, swollen belly with umbilical hernia - his pants just won't stay on him because of his belly, poor little guy.
We saw a lovely young Mom and her wee babe, srapped in a heavy blanket and shielded from the sun - baby looked way too overdressed for Africa! but so be it.
It is always a delight to see the surprise on an elder's face when I greet them with "Shikamoo" - the Swahili greeting for a person older than yourself. Their countenance changes and they smile in response with "Marahaba".
We looked at the stars tonight - I think we may have seen Scorpio - it has a taill like a Scorpion. I love how the stars are viewed differently around the world.
I must go to sleep. It will be a full day. Ah!!!...a HUGE cock roach just scurried across my floor! Eeek! Okay...I've killed it now - all is well :) Glad I'm under a "creature" net (my mosquito net).
Goodnight.
