I'm sitting here in the darkness of Amazonia listening to the voices of young children singing and clapping in the hut next to us. It is an absolutely sensational sound. I am overwhelmed by my surroundings and I think very much still fully unaware of where I am and what I have seen.
The people in these villages are primarily barefoot and it is more muddy than I have ever seen. We are constantly muddy and stinky and sweaty. But! I'm not as stinky as I thought I'd be yet...which is good since we have two more days.
I am learning a bit more Spanish. Tito has been very patient with me as we register people in the clinic. I even managed to register a few people on my own when Tito got called away! Remarkable!
The bugs are becoming horrible...I may need to sign off. I'm trying to decide whether to wash with the river water the men hauled up for us. Eeek! it's so dirty and the parasites! - makes me nervous. It may feel good though. Why not?
