April 15th Yuri: Day Four, Part Two
Some memories from today...
On the way to the hospital today, we stopped by Dr. Valentin's home. I waited out in the truck and there were these young boys up on a balcony playing with a rope. I waved at them and they giggled. Then shortly afterwards, I heard this little teasing voice call, "Señora!" I waved again and they ran and hid. Then...they appeared outside and for the next 15 minutes we tossed the rope back and forth between the side walk and the truck. They were a blast! and I don't think I'll ever forget that little voice calling me "Señora".
Flor and Yoly on the moto-bike. Flor is the administrative assistant at the Hogar and she is simply amazing! A beautiful, beautiful woman who has a gentle heart and a detailed mind. She was constantly coming through for us on this trip. And Yoly...well, she is simply the glue that holds the Hogar together. Two remarkable women with fantastic smiles!
Martha and Juan! Martha was so excited to be going on the moto-bike with Juan...she insisted we take a picture. Juan was very gracious to run Martha back to the hostel so that she wouldn't have to walk the whole way. At this point in the strike, the moto-bikes were able to squeeze around the blockades but that soon changed. I need to tell you who Juan is! Juan usually works out at the farm, in Munichis, about 15 km. outside of Yuri, which is another part of the ministry that Missionary Ventures has been developing in the area. It is actually a model farm in Peru that many in governement have acknowledged as a project to be considered for future farm developments. Due to the stirke, again...Juan got stuck in Yuri! Again though, God used something that could have been a major pain, to provide for a need that would exist. While the rest of us were out in the jungle, Juan was the only male left back at the Hogar and the women needed him...for safety and for grunt work! He was a huge blessing to the team that remained there.
With the blockades up, the streets started turning into volley ball courts! I don't know where all these nets came from but it was really quite entertaining how many volley ball games were going on!
Just a house I noticed walking back to the hostel one day. There's a wee young lad sitting in the open doorway and he looked so sad. Not a smile on his face at all.
How the garbage gets put out in Yurimaguas...high up so the dogs (and other creatures) can't get into it.
