Fabric land

The afternoon of our last full day in Igoma was spent in Mwanza City with Edah and her friend Beatrice.  They took us shopping for fabric and souvenirs...something we hadn't had any real time for before.  The fabric in Africa is incredible!...I'm sure like many other parts of the world...just so full of colour and patterns.  It's incredible.  It was wild to walk down this little narrow alley way filled with fabric....hanging from the ceilings, folded in piles all up along the walls...truly something for the eye to behold.

There was also two males in the alley way, working on sewing machines.  I couldn't help but wonder how long the youngest boy works on that machine for throughout the day...and why he wasn't in school.  I asked Edah if there are any laws in Tanzania about child labour and she said she didn't think there was.  Something for me to investigate further.  He worked hard, this young lad, and you could tell that he was concentrated on the task at home.  I only hope that he has as many hours of play that he does of work....let's hope he has many, many more hours of the play kind.
